History of Callaghans Bar Churchill Co Donegal
The first record of Callaghans Bar can be traced back to a date in 1892 when a Mr J Duddy leased the property from the Lough Veagh Estate.
In 1927 a very young Mary Healy inherited the business. To this day some of our locals still refer to the bar as "Mary Healys". Mary ran the business through some very tough years and raised a family too. The current owners are Raymond, Son of Mary Healy and his wife Kathleen.
Callaghans Bar has evolved over the years, with various family members adding to and decorating the original building, culminating in an extensive investment and renovation in 1991 which was followed by the addition of a badly needed purpose built extension for events. The building retains its warmth and character, but can now cater to parties, hoolies and the odd ravenous hoarde.
We get groups of walkers, runners, cyclists, sightseers and school trips as well as bus tours and twitchers, returned yanks and the odd "lost soul".
Callaghans - where everybody knows your name - within a few minutes :-) Come on in and take the weight off your feet, have a bit o' craic with the locals and tell us what you are up to or just enjoy a quiet drink and the peace that permeates the air that hangs with the memory of yesteryear
